Maurice Beatson Maurice was born into a very horsey family - his father a successful jump jockey, as well as Master of Dannevirke Hunt for 20 years. He was actively involved in all things horsey. Maurice has been riding since he was a small boy. In the early days he rode eventing, winning the DC Trophy (for riders under 17years) on Golden Cloud, and it was in eventing that he first represented New Zealand, in Australia on Lord Aurora. He then moved on to show jumping and has had a glittering career - this includes:
When Maurice isn't riding horses he is busy farming sheep and cattle on his 1800acre farm near Dannevirke, in southern Hawkes Bay. He also operates a breeding programme running two stallions and 15 mares. He has his owner/trainer licence and periodically trains racehorses with varying amounts of success. Maurice has
two sons - Jamie and Andrew. Both boys have been very successful
with their riding. Presently Andrew is travelling overseas. Jamie works in Cambridge
in business with his cousin Sam breaking-in and pre-training horses
and is still involved in show jumping competitively. He's had many
successes including twice winning Show Jumping Young Rider of the Year. |
